July 4, 1986.  New York City officials dedicate the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty with the lighting of the torch and the biggest fireworks display I have ever seen.  The celebration is held in Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhatten which can be seen on rooftops from miles away.
